Peace In A Modern World

Positive Psychology

It’s there from the moment we are ripped from slumber by artificial sounds… The feeling as our stomach churns and we remember the appointments, tasks, vexatious people and excuses that we will make that day. The feeling is a breakfast of guilt, anxiety and dissonance. It is no wonder that our stomach churns! And yet a hearty breakfast of food is oft skipped… When I was a child the invasion of sunlight, noisey birds, smell of cooking and melody of my mother’s voice used to wake me and the only feelings from my stomach were pangs of ravenous hunger.

I knew peace then, and excitement and friendship and connection. Why and when did i stop looking for and cultivating it. At what point did the world turn into a digital diatribe of bitterness… The beautiful videos with stirring captions and music… The videos are nothing compared to a real orchestra where the sound vibrates through the air and cascades directly into my ears, the real kitten that makes misery smile and the puppy that turns me back into a child…

Peace will never be found within a screen of light unless the screen is seen rising behind the hills. Nor can peace be found in the tweeting of tweets from the blue bird – lest the tweets be from the Bluebird that flys. Peace will not be found in the Facebook but in the faces of our friends and book of our own life that has yet to be written in the real world. Our deeds should echo into eternity and be shared with the world and not simply shared to echo in cyberspace…

We should seek to be likeable and not seek likes. Friendships are the vessels built to sail across the sea of life and not to be entered into with a click…
